Hey! I get a lot of questions about how I add the white outline around images in my thumbnails, so today I’m going to breakdown the steps so you can make your thumbnails and other graphics stand out.
So first log into your Canva account, and if you don’t already have a Canva account you can sign up for one for free. You can choose any blank template for whatever you want to create, I’m going to choose an Instagram Post.
Once you have your blank template you need to add your image in. You can go to uploads and use a photo you already have or choose to upload a new photo. If you just wanted to use a stock photo go into elements and you can choose any photo you like.
Once you have your image in your template you are going to have to remove the background unless you uploaded a photo without a background. To do this click on your image, than click the edit image button near the top, and click BG remover, if you don’t see that option you can search for background remover and it will pop up.
Before we add the outline we need to add a color in our background to make it pop. Click off of your image, anywhere on the template. At the top left of the screen you will see the color palette button, you can click on that and choose whatever color you like. So now we have our background color and our image, time to add the outline.
Click on your image and click the edit image button at the top. If you don’t see the shadows option you can search it just like we did the background remover.
Once you click the shadows option we are going to use the glow effect. The first time you click you won’t see much of a change but click on the three lines on the glow option and it will open up the editing tools. Move your transparency to 100, the blur to 0 and you can set the size to whatever you prefer, I usually stay between 15-20. The color defaults to black but you can change it to white or any other color you like.
Now you have your outline so you can move the image so its exactly where you want and make it larger or smaller.
And there you go, now you are ready to make your images pop and stand out!
